How do you create an English quiz in just a few seconds? On The CourseNetworking platform, the one we use for our MOOCs and private courses, the Roumi AI assistant creates a quality quiz in record time! Demonstration.
Creating an English quiz can be more difficult than expected. And more time-consuming. You may still have dozens of corrections to make, preparations for the next lesson and other pressing commitments.
An English quiz in seconds with The CourseNetworking
If you have followed our MOOC - MOOC Dys or MOOC DIMPA - you already know the platform The CourseNetworking. It's The Indiana University (IUPUI) who developed this platform, which is more of a social learning network than a traditional LMS. We have also created a series of tutorials to help you make the most of this platform.
Roumi, a friendly virtual assistant
For some years now, The CourseNetworking has been hoping for a virtual assistant. Its name is Roumilike the 13th-century Persian poet. Roumi can :

- suggest interesting communities
- put you in touch with people who share your interests
- you propose job offers linked to the skills you have indicated on your ePotrtfolio
- inform you of free educational resources relevant on Merlot
- etc.
I was one of the beta testers who got to try out Roumi's first steps. Since then, it has evolved considerably.
Today, it can go much further in providing assistance:
- it can create an entire course
- it can design quizzes
- can write an article on a given subject
- etc.
As I already mentioned in a previous article, we have to prepare a self-assessment and an English course for Italian secondary school teachers. They will be in Brussels during the last week of August. This course is part of our Erasmus+ Mobility partnership with Euroglocal.
An English quiz in just a few seconds
The theme of the dialogue created last week was the loss of one of the protagonists' luggage. The aim of the dialogue was to test the listening comprehension of future participants in our hybrid course.
In this quiz, we'd like to test their reading comprehension. So we asked a prompt to create a quiz on the same theme. Here is an extract from the multiple-choice questions created for us by the virtual assistant:

I wouldn't recommend systematically using this type of application to create your language tests. But it's true that we often don't have enough time to create educational resources. That's why we actively promote this type of resource under Creative Commons licences.
What do you think of this type of tool? Have you already used them?
You can create your own course for free on the CourseNetworking platform. And use these virtual assistants to save design and production time. Your institution can also acquire the complete solution for all your learners. Get in touch with us to Learn more about the use of this solution.
