Language courses for teachers

Language courses for teachers like no other! We’re making the most of our location in Brussels to offer you a unique training programme. A programme that combines classroom-based lessons with visits to institutions and historic neighbourhoods… But also a teaching approach focused on developing a group project in the target language.

Language courses for teachers in a unique setting

Brussels enjoys a unique status: as the capital of both Belgium and Europe, it is also a city with a complex history and, by necessity, a European one. It is, moreover, the capital of a region in its own right. We are taking advantage of this setting, which is unique in the world, to offer you an immersive learning experience in the heart of the city.

For example, our participants visited the House of European History, a museum linked to the European Parliament, a gem of modernist architecture set within the beautiful surroundings of Leopold Park. The teacher gave them a history of the park and the museum in English, as well as a guided tour of the premises using a tablet, also in English. Afterwards, the teacher led a debriefing in the museum’s café. This debriefing, conducted in English, was filmed for the group’s ‘vlog’ project.

The group also visited the European Parliament’s Chamber with an audio guide. Here too, the teacher gave a brief historical overview of the European institutions in English. These visits may vary depending on the groups’ interests and the institutions’ availability. We also visited the National Bank Museum with certain groups that had expressed an interest in economic history or Erasmus’s House in Anderlecht for groups keen to find out more about the figure after whom the European programme is named.

Group projects: an active approach to learning

Project-based learning is both stimulating and highly effective: it encourages the group to focus on a specific educational objective – the completion of a project. It channels all activities towards a single learning objective: learning a foreign language. It draws on a range of skills:

  • language skills :
    • listening and reading comprehension
    • expression orale, écrite
  • technical skills :
    • photo and video shooting
    • sound recording
    • editing
  • interpersonal skills:
    • collaboration – discussion
    • group production

Languages available for our language courses for teachers

We currently offer courses in three languages:

  • French
  • English

The duration varies from 5 to 10 days, depending on the group. The teachers are native speakers. They adapt their teaching to the participants’ level.

The teaching approach is active: we ensure that participants express themselves in the target language as much as possible. We provide them with apps and teaching materials. They retain access to these resources after the course.
