What are the European institutions? And what is their mission within the Union? Here's a free Genially presentation you can use in your classroom or association.
As I said in our previous articleFormation 3.0 was asked to train Portuguese teachers in various aspects of the European Union. As part of this, we created Genially presentations and also used other applications, which I will discuss in future articles.
The European institutions, roles and missions
The sole aim of this presentation is to recall the four main European institutions and their respective missions :
- The Commission European Parliament: proposes legislation and manages the Union on a day-to-day basis. Made up of Commissioners (one per Member State), it manages the budget and ensures that the European treaties are applied.
- The Parliament European Parliament: the Union's legislative body: the only institution whose members are directly elected by the citizens; it controls the Union's budget.
- The European Council The Council: made up of the governments of the 27 Member States, it gives guidelines on the general policy of the Union.
- The European Court of Justice European Court of Human Rights: not to be confused with the Court of Human Rights in The Hague, this Court has its seat in Luxembourg. Its task is to ensure that European regulations are correctly interpreted and faithfully applied.
