Esercise H5P
I created this little exercise to check whether the students in our European Citizenship course had remembered the hierarchy of sources of law in the European Union.
In this exercise, they must arrange the sources of law from top (the highest source) to bottom (the lowest). When they have finished, they can check for themselves whether their answer is correct, partially correct or completely wrong. How about you? Can you put these sources in the correct order?
This exercise was carried out with H5P, A highly recommended site for creating educational applications 😉 This resource has been created under a Creative Commons licence. You can therefore reuse it for your course or web page. If you are unsure how to do this, refer to this page.

Asylum and migration in Europe
The media and politicians often present migration as the number one problem for Europe and its Member States. However, the figures tell a different story. Without denying the problem, we need to put it into context and clarify its importance in relation to other challenges, such as climate change, the collapse of biodiversity and the brutalisation of political life.
The New European Pact on Migration and Asylum
The European Union has developed a new legal framework for migration and asylum. It is a "Pact" that attempts to rebalance the responsibilities of Member States within the Union in terms of migration. However, there is much to be said about the philosophy behind this framework, particularly the hardening of the European position and the increased risks in terms of human rights.
The interactive Genially infographic below provides a summary of this pact. It is reusable. To add it to your Genially account, click on this link and then on the Reuse this Genially button. You can learn more about the pact by reading this article (in Italian or in French or in English).

Refugees, displaced persons and asylum seekers worldwide
Italy complains that it receives too large a share of the world's refugees. In this presentation and these exercises, I attempt to understand the complexity of migration. The following resources are taken from my course on European citizenship, which I teach in Brussels as part of the European Erasmus+ Mobility programme.
Displaced persons worldwide
You can also download the PDF version of this Canva for Work presentation.
Where do refugees come from?
The purpose of this exercise is to show the origins of refugees. The answers may surprise your students. I often begin my module on refugees with this exercise and the next one.
Which countries host the largest number of refugees?
In this exercise, students must reclassify countries in order of size: which ones take in the largest number of refugees?
