There are an increasing number of applications offering mind maps based on artificial intelligence. I'm rather reticent about having a mind map created by an “outside intelligence”. The process of constructing a map is a learning process in itself. But sometimes we're in a hurry or not very familiar with a topic. Or, more simply, we run out of ideas.

Mindmap AI: automation combined with personal creation

What I like about Mindmap AI is not only that it works very well: you can create a professionally-made mind map from a simple prompt. But most importantly, it allows you to continue building manually. In other words, you can add tags, images, text, icons, or hyperlinks by hand.

The storming of the Bastille as a mind map

Since today we’re celebrating July 14th and thus the Storming of the Bastille, I chose this event and its consequences as the subject of my mind map. I also wanted to test the performance of the application in French. Sometimes, tools work brilliantly in English and produce nonsense in French or other languages. Here is the prompt I typed to generate my map and the dialogue that followed:

As you can read in the header of the conversation, the artificial intelligence model used by MindmapAI is Copilot, Microsoft's AI application. Yes, the same one you find in the Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Easy export in various formats

Another menu makes it easy to export to various formats:

• PNG: high-resolution images
• SVG: vector images (whose resolution remains stable regardless of image size)
• SVG HTML: vector images for web pages
• PDF: the well-known printable format
• CSV: data on a spreadsheet
• Markdown: language used on the Web
• Project: the map in MMA format, which is Mindmap AI’s own format. This system is similar to Mindomo, which lets you work online and also download maps in the .mom format.
